Good eating habits

  Knowledge about food, eating, and their relationship to health is the best way to
  change inappropriate eating patterns of adults and to introduce youngsters to good

eating habits that should last a lifetime.

The recommended daily amounts of food for people over the age of two have been established with reasonable accuracy. They are called minimal daily amounts, but they always contain a fairly generous safety factor.

The four group division: In general, foods are divided into four major groups:

  • Meat, fish, eggs
  • Dairy products
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Breads and cereals

The seven group division: For purposes of planning daily requirements, a more detailed way of considering food groupings is the following:

  • Leafy green and yellow vegetables
  • Citrus fruits, tomatoes and raw cabbage
  • Potatoes and other vegetables and fruits
  • Milk, cheese and ice-cream
  • Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dried peas and beans
  • Bread, flour and cereals
  • Butter and fortified margarine
